Echoes of Serenity
Description
"Echoes of Serenity" was captured during the winter of 2017, just before the new year, when I was exploring Kyoto for the first time. My wife and I had just started seeing each other, and we were walking the "Philosopher's Path" together—a quiet, reflective stroll that led us to Ginkaku-ji, the Silver Temple.
Unlike the flashy Golden Temple, Ginkaku-ji is all about subdued elegance. It was originally built in 1482 by shogun Ashikaga Yoshimasa as his retirement villa, and later became a Zen temple. The simplicity of the wooden structure and the peaceful moss garden around it make it a place of calm and reflection.
After taking in the atmosphere, we ended the day at a tiny café nearby, to enjoy some matcha and check out a collection of toy trains—a perfect, quirky finish to a memorable day.
"Echoes of Serenity" isn’t just about the temple itself; it’s about that moment of quiet connection, both with a place and with someone special, in a city that feels like it’s from another time.
