"Icy Oasis" captures a unique moment where the desert was transformed into a winter wonderland. I took this photo on New Year’s Eve, 2019, during a trip through Joshua Tree National Park.

It was a rare sight—snow had covered the usually arid desert landscape, casting it in an entirely new light. It was my wife’s first time seeing Joshua Tree, and we couldn’t have asked for a more unforgettable experience. Kids were having snowball fights, and we even made a couple of snow angels ourselves, laughing at the unexpected magic of the day.
