"Phoenix Rising" captures the timeless beauty of Byōdō-in’s Phoenix Hall in Uji, Japan. I took this picture in February of 2024 during my annual journey to Japan. The Phoenix Hall is the main attraction of temple complex, which was built back in 1053 during the Heian period. During this time, Japanese art, culture and architecture were flourishing. The building gets its name from the two bronze phoenix statues that adorn its roof and the structure itself is said to resemble a phoenix with outstretched wings. The Phoenix is a symbol of renewal and immortality - while Byōdō-in may not be immortal the complex has stood the test of time - remaining intact for nearly 1000 years - surviving natural diasters and wars alike. Capturing this scene, without the hoardes of sight-seers required a lot of waiting and patience. Yet spending time there was strangely soothing. Like so many temples in Japan, there is a palpable timelessness that rings of another age. Your photograph is printed on Fuji Crystal Archive DPII paper, then face-mounted to 0.16” optical-grade acrylic glass using an archival adhesive process. The result is extraordinary — colors appear to glow from within, with a depth and luminosity impossible to achieve with traditional framing. Finished with an aluminum Dibond backing for structural rigidity. UV-resistant. Ready to hang.
ChromaLuxe HD Metal Print
Your image is permanently infused into a specially coated aluminum surface through ChromaLuxe HD dye sublimation — not printed on top, but bonded at a molecular level. The result is extraordinary color vibrancy, razor-sharp detail, and a striking contemporary presence. Scratch-resistant, waterproof, and rated for 65+ years of archival permanence. Ready to hang.
